Shuler Art Project in the Press

The Des Moines Register recently printed a story on the City's plans to commission an art piece honoring the former Shuler mines.  Check out the story here.

Prairie Engine Progress Report: See the Photos!

Artist Marc Moulton provided a report of his progress on Prairie Engine, the piece commissioned for the NW 86th Street & University Boulevard Plaza.  Marc also sent some pictures of his work in action.

According to Marc, the sculpture footings and foundations have been coordinated and worked out with the landscape architect.  Fabrication has not yet begun. Currently, the digital patterns and designs necessary for the machine cutting have been developed and are under review for quote and feasibility. There are several different ways to cut metal, so Marc is reviewing possibilities and cut quality. Cutting should begin shortly.  Installation is still projected for summer 2010.

Clive Living Magazine highlights the Clive Public Art Program!

Clive Living Magazine interviews Clive City Manager Dennis Henderson about economic development activity in the City of Clive. Dennis highlights the Clive Public Art Program and discusses completed art projects as well as those planned for the future.

Public Art Project planned for Historic Clive Corner

Congratulations to artist Marc Moulton (represented by Moberg Gallery) who was selected to commission the city’s second public art piece. A twelve-member artist selection panel initially reviewed qualifications from thirteen artists, and narrowed the selection down to three. Those three artists then designed proposals and presented them to the panel on August 26, 2009, and Marc’s proposal, Prairie Engine, was unanimously selected. While the proposal will be refined in the weeks to come, a preliminary rendering of Prairie Engine is illustrated here. The public work of art will be placed at the soon-to-be redeveloped plaza at NW 86th Street and University Boulevard, in conjunction with the Phase 2 streetscape improvements on NW 86th Street.  Installation is scheduled for July-August 2010.

Clive Public Art Fundraiser

All purchases benefit the Clive Public Art Fund with proceeds going toward future public art projects throughout the community!

Fundraiser Description:

• 7"x7” wood tile handcrafted by Sticks®; hand drawn, contour etched, and vibrantly painted imagery selected from the public art project at the crossing guard shelter at NW 86th Street & Franklin Avenue

• $100 per tile—customize the tiles with a name or date for an additional $5.00!

• Eight tiles to choose from (see below). Each tile has been uniquely painted within the jewel-toned color palette; color patterns vary slightly from tile to tile.

• Tiles are appropriate for home and business, and they make great gifts for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, staff appreciation, etc.

• Inventory is expected to arrive early December!
